'Understanding Depression'

Dr Alison Brabban

'Understanding Depression' offers an overview, from a professional clinical psychologist, of what depression is and how it is currently understood and treated from a mental health service perspective. It will provide an introduction, from a present-day point of view, of the understanding of this condition as a preliminary to our attempt to learn more, in the series of lectures that follows, about the ways in which depression was regarded, treated, expressed and negotiated in a key period of our medical and cultural history, the eighteenth century.
